Wealden Wheels has been helping to bridge the rural transport gap in our local communities for the last 5 years. Managed largely by volunteers and run on a not-for-profit basis, it aims to provide an accessible, affordable and flexible means of transport to village members.

Jointly set up and financially supported by the Parish Councils of Smarden, Charing, Challock, Egerton and Pluckley (with Chilham joining more recently) it runs 3 minibuses which are available for hire by village families or groups who join the scheme. The 40 or so current members include local families, village clubs and societies, St. Michael’s Parish Church Council, the local primary school and the pre-school, with members using the service for social, leisure, educational and health purposes. Trips can be either short or long, local or further afield, subject to vehicle and driver availability.

With a modest joining fee of £10 for 12 months, you can hire one or more of the vehicles, either for self-drive or with one of our volunteer drivers. 2 of the 3 vehicles are equipped for the safe and comfortable transport of disabled passengers. All of our drivers are CRB checked and most have received KCC minibus driver training and St John’s Ambulance basic first aid training.
