Friends of Smarden Church   FOSC

The organisation “Friends of Smarden Church” is affectionately known as “FOSC”

The aim of FOSC is to help maintain the fabric of Smarden`s oldest historic building, the beautiful Parish Church of St Michael the Archangel in the heart of the village.

FOSC is a registered charity (No. 1050209). Since its foundation in 1995 it has raised over  £ 140,000 which has been spent on the fabric of the Church or is held for future needs. We are currently raising money for urgently needed rewiring and for new lights.

FOSC is a secular organisation and its members and contributors include people of different faiths and non-believers.  It welcomes everyone who would like to contribute in financial or other ways to the maintenance of Smarden Parish Church.

FOSC holds a variety of fund raising events including a pancake evening on Shrove Tuesday, a summer garden safari, concerts and other events in the Church, talks and croquet tournaments. Money is also raised from annual subscriptions and legacies.

The current trustees are:

Chairman: Melanie Marden        01233 770182

Hon Treasurer: Hugh Perrott      01233 770429

Hon Secretary:  Hugh Ellison        01233 770594

FOSC welcomes not only new and old residents of Smarden as members and contributors but also those from outside the village who would like to be involved in the preservation of this historic Church. Please contact one of the above if you would like to become a member or participate in future events.

The minimum annual subscription is £10.00; FOSC operates with no overheads and all proceeds and profits from events go towards the fabric of the Church.
